Eliminating the six pointed star on head models

Does anybody have a practical [and battle tested] tip or trick for getting rid of stars when using polygon modeling for organic objects such as the human head? I find that the advice I've been getting lately is too general... i.e "re-route the geometry".

If so, you need to reconsider your modelling methods or at least take the time to fix the topology by re-routing the edge flow.
There's a ton of of free training online.
