Which animation school to go to in Cape Town?
I'm looking at studying full time next year and having slight difficulty in choosing which one is best to go for. Learn2, CityVasity, The Animation School or even DNA Pixels? ( Somerset West ). I live in Somerset West and would'nt mind popping off down the road to college instead of treking all the way to Cape town, but if I need to, I would. What should I be looking for in an animation course and school? Help!

The Animation School is really on the ball with everything 3D and what is going on in the industry. Very proffesional school with amazing faculty and awesome campus. This should be the first choice in choosing a Animation School.
hello
i am a foreign student and would like to study in south africa in an animation school but don't have great knowledge about the animation school there. i do a research on the internet and found about learn2, CityVasity and the animation school. i would like to have knowledge on autodesk software 3ds max and maya and adobe software. would anyone consider me for a school there. is the animation school or learn2 is good? does their accreditation recognised internationally?
please send me some advice.thanks
Hi there, I was also until recently resident in Somerset West, and took the train in from there to study full time in Cape Town. I'm currently finishing my 1st year at Learn2. I've also done a short course last year June in 3DsMax.
I am very happy at Learn2, the classes arn't as big as what I assume they are at other institutions. Also they teach industry standard software, Autodesk products and Adobe and ToonBoom products for 2D animation.
The 1st year is Adobe, Toonboom and 3DsMax and the second year is Maya. Along with the classes we have drawing classes for an hour before lecture times by our 2nd year lecturer, who draws absolutely amazing and has done alot of concept work in the industry.
Don't be too scared to travel from Somerset West, I know i've been there as well, and thought how am I going to do this, but it really is worth it. Metrorail has the Northern Express train that leaves somerset west train station around 6am and arrives cape town station 7am give or take. you get a coffee and a newspaper along with waiter etc, so the experience is really cool. Gave me alot of time to sit and draw and go over some work and if you have a laptop, you can plug that in as well and work! Killer.
I know about DNA in Somerset West. I don't think they offer Autodesk products tuition, only Blender as far as I know. Blender, as you probably know is open source and free, so in my opinion, although prowerful and feature rich, it's not industry standard - which most companies in Cape Town and abroad are going to require.
So think about it, don't know too much about the Animation School and City Varcity, but check it out as well if you feel like it. But really, you can stay in Somerset West and study in Town, its not bad at all to travel by that train. By the way, tickets are about R750 per month for the train and you are guarenteed a seet.
PS: mind my spelling, i know it bad! ;-)
Good luck hope to see you at Learn2
