hii there anyone, i like to know if there are any major serious differences between the XSI 7.5 and the Softimage 8.0 whichi suppose is the lattest.

another thing is, i notice when you are in symmetry mode pulling or pushing edges and co will correspondingly affect the other side of the symmetry object butcertain other actions dont apply to symmetry for instance subdividing an edge does not happen simultaneosly to the other side of the symmetry object, pls tell me how to achieve this sort of symmetry modelling, without having to go online and watch a whole tutorial on how to do this. thanks

Hi,
I write this away from my Softimage computer - so the comments will be broad and general.

Symmetry Mode: Best used when you are transforming (move, scale rotate) your model. Use it to sculpt and shape your existing geometry

If you want to add geometry on the fly and have that update... (e.g. subdivide the edge)
You need to set this up first...
1) delete half the primitive you are starting with
2) create an instance of it (this is a copy with a link to the original)
3) 'mirror it' (in XSI we use SCALE -1 as the mirror command)
(- with the instance selected, choose the axis, probably X, scale that -1, you may want to consider freezing the transform...)
4) start modelling... (if you add edge loops, etc to original, the instance will update, ...)

When done, merge the two halves to form the model, now tweak further in symmetry mode...

Hi Deboh, We do not have any information released for Softimage 8.0( if that is what the new release will be called.) Normally release dates will follow the Autodesk M&E launch cycle, so i can only presume that it will be the last quarter of this year .I will keep you posted once we have information. I have forwarded your symmetry questions to our Softimage expert.
