I scanned in a double page sketch form my sketchbook and painted in Photoshop. I used photo images for a base to paint some of the textures ie smoke, fire, scales ect. 

The picture depicts Glaurung the Golden, father of dragons, the great worm who features heavily in Tolkiens epic Silmarillion. It is a scene imagined from the fifth battle, where the dwarves of Belegost surround Glaurung. I wanted to depict the horror and majesty of the Dragon King,and his explosive power. The Dwarves have formed a wall of heavy duty Shields to hold of his flames, some were caught off guard and paid the price with their lives.
