Film Industry hosts Cape Town “Oscars”: Call for nominations opens for 2nd Annual Imbongi Awards

The Cape Film Commission and the City of Cape Town will be hosting the 2nd Annual Imbongi Awards to showcase and recognise excellence within the Cape Town and Western Cape film industry. The event will be held on Saturday, 6 March 2010, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
With 10 award categories and the Chairman’s Award, the 2010 Awards promises to showcase the very best production talent and facilities in Cape Town and the Western Cape.

Chairperson of the Cape Film Commission Board, Gary Edwardes, said that this year’s Imbongi Awards will be special as “we will be honoring the entire film industry for their contribution in having established Cape Town and the Western Cape as a globally competitive film industry destination”.

“The Imbongi Awards” underpins Cape Town’s established reputation for production craft by recognising, rewarding and honoring individuals and companies for outstanding achievement in pre-production, production and post-production. We have a high-profile independent judging panel and a stringent judging process to insure the integrity of the awards, which will be audited by Galbraith Rushby Auditors”, Mr. Edwardes said.

Head of the CFC, Laurence Mitchell, further added that, “The film industry has been able to attract a significant amount of productions to Cape Town and the Western Cape which in turn contributed significantly to the growth of the film industry and the economy of the Western Cape. In addition these productions have further contributed to the marketing of Cape Town and the Western Cape as a desirable location and industry for film productions. The Imbongi Awards is thus our way of paying homage to those individuals and companies who have all contributed to this success”.
The nomination process officially opens on the 19th January 2010 and closes on the 5th February 2010. The 10 categories are Best Contribution to marketing Cape Town and the Western Cape through film content, Technical Service Provider of the Year, Best Producer, Best Locations Professional, Excellence in Animation, Excellence in VFX and Post Production, Best Contribution to marketing the Film Industry in Cape Town and the Western Cape, Service Provider of the Year, Best Production Company and Best Contribution to Skills Development and Transformation.
